May 1
31 Days of Glory kicks off at Fascinate-U Children’s Museum with guest speaker Dana Canedy (see below), music by Jon and Caroline Parsons, and a 6’x12’ patriotic mural for children to color. Admissioin to the kickoff is free. Admission into the museum is free until 2 p.m.
May 2
Art 'Celebrating & Honoring Military Heroes' from children of military families will be revealed at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum and will remain on display throughout the month, thanks to K-12 students at Cumberland County Schools.
During a special ceremony, three winners of the art contest will be announced and given prizes. Mayor Chavonne will also present commemorative coins to children of fallen soldiers, in honor of their parents who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Free admission.
May 8
A day of special discounts for military families is offered by many businesses throughout the community. Must show ID. Sponsored by Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

May 14 - 31
Beginning with a dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 15th, the 2010 Fayetteville Field of Honor –hundreds of flags will go up on the Airborne and Special Operation Museum parade grounds and across the street on the site of the future Veteran’s Park. The 3x5’ flags will be displayed on 8’ poles and will stand until after the Glory Days Downtown Memorial Day Celebration concludes. Individuals may purchase flags for $25 in honor or memory of someone. Free admission.

On May 30-31, the Fayetteville Downtown Alliance will host the 10th Annual Glory Days Downtown Memorial Day Celebration. Our family oriented activities will include arts, crafts, and food vendors. We begin on the 30th, with an 8 p.m. Sunday Movie in the Park. On Memorial Day, festivities will include a Pancake Breakfast (7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., $5 per plate) , a formal Ceremony at Freedom Memorial Park, a car show, bake sale, live music, the 'Patriot's Crit' Bicycle Races, a Kids Corner , vintage military equipment and gear exhibits, carriage rides, and more. Free admission.
May 31
The Freedom Memorial Park Steering Committee, along with the Cumberland County Veterans Council, is holding a formal Memorial Day Ceremony at Freedom Memorial Park with lots of participants. There will be seating for over 300 visitors.
